One of the biggest challenges in the dissertation process is around letting go. Letting go of your perfectionism, letting go of your fear, letting go of anxiety, and, ultimately, letting go of your project so you can get feedback. Letting go is a skill that can be learned- but, really, most of us aren’t that good at it. We cling too tightly to our fear of loss, never realizing what we might gain. Nothing new can ever be created unless space is first made for it. If you want to keep making progress in your dissertation process (and in your life)- keep finding new places where you can let go of perfectionism, self criticism, and fear- so you can leave open the space to gain something else.
