One of my dissertation coaching clients recently found out that she has a chronic illness- which suddenly seems to account for her recent flurry of medical issues and resulting stress. She is committed to finishing the dissertation, despite her illness, but, as you might imagine, the illness just makes it so incredibly difficult. Finding out that you have a chronic illness always hits hard, and you will need some time to come to terms with this change, and then, eventually, you’ll need to find a way to live with it. Take the time you need to feel like you’ve at least started the process of living with it. Get lots of support and accept all the help you can. When you’re ready, you can manage the illness and still get the dissertation done, too.
