I've been wanting to have a Dissertation Wall of Fame for a while now- you know, a place for people who've finished to get public acknowledgement for their successes. I just set this up, and am pleased to share with you the story of the most recent Ph.D. student I helped to finish. He was a member of my dissertation coaching site, and really took Get it Done! to heart. His story motivated me, and I hope it does the same for you.

We’ve previously talked about beliefs. The second part of the equation is that of actions, and again as I stated, your beliefs will determine your actions. So you actually need to focus on feeling better first before you can take actions which move you forward.

When we look at actions which move you forward, examples of these would be actions such as; creating a regular schedule to work and actually sticking to it, finding ways to make use of all of the available pockets of time that you have to make progress, avoiding procrastinating or not putting things off that you could take care of today.

In the previous post, I asked you to think about whether you were speaking the language of courage or the language of fear. For many of you, the language is of fear.

So if your conversation is dominated by fear about the dissertation; if you feel worried about whether you'll finish and you talk about this a lot; if you feel upset and you have this secret fear that you're not really going to finish; all of those beliefs will directly impact the actions you take as I mentioned.

Belief is a really important component because it is the underlying foundation for all of the actions that you take. If you truly and honestly don't believe that you can complete the dissertation, you probably, unfortunately, will be right.

Change management requires being patient and recognizing that whatever it is today may not be exactly what is tomorrow.

And, of course, that can be a good or bad thing; depending on your whether or not you like what's happening today. That said; let’s focus on a scenario in which you are not happy with the status quo.
