Getting back to work after a long absence..

I’m not sure where the summer has gone, but all of sudden we’re into August and I see that my blog writing has gone way down. I noticed this happening and would like to share with you what was going on- it’s relevant to the dissertation process. Ok, so, when I first put up this blog, I committed myself to writing in it every day- even when it was difficult or I felt I didn’t have anything to say. (Which seemed to happen more frequently than I had thought it would). Anyway, so as I got busier (the past 3 months have been the busiest -ever-) I saw that my blog writing kept being put off… put off… put off.. So I decided to drop my writing frequency to three times a week. Three times became two… which became one… which became, ultimately, none. So how is this relevant to the dissertation process? In two main ways: first, it’s easier to stay committed to a project when you show up for it every day. It’s harder to have the same kind of discipline when you work on it less often. So your goal should be to work on the dissertation everyday if possible. Next, if you want to get back to work after a long absence (like with me and blog-writing), start small. To that end, I’m ramping back up slowly and hope to be back to more regular blog-writing within the next few weeks. I’m helping a few more ABD’s finish up this month, so I should also have some more good information to share. Stay tuned.
