When you find yourself procrastinating or feeling overwhelmed by your dissertation, the best approach is to chunk your work. As it sounds, chunking involves breaking up the big (overwhelming) task into smaller, more manageable pieces. It’s like creating a step by step map of how you will move from your starting point to your desired end goal. You get better at chunking by doing it. If you are currently experiencing a task which has you procrastinating, jot down 5 small actions you could take to get going. Then take each action one after the other. Repeat as needed. Using this practice, you’ll find yourself moving ahead and procrastinating on procrastinating.
