Set small goals you can easily reach.

In order to make the fastest progress on the dissertation, set small goals that you can easily reach. This might seem counterintuitive, but the typical dissertator sets an unrealistically large goal, falls short, and then sets another unrealistically large goal to make up for the failure, and so on.. You’re better off setting goals you can easily meet- in fact, I regularly encourage my clients to set goals which feel "too small"- and I remind them that they can always do more if they want to. (And they usually do- so they end up further along, anyway). It’s better to set small goals and meet them regularly than it is to set huge goals and fall short.
